  Pups des Vauriennes' nesten

Our Policy

So the moment is there,  you've decided to get a puppy, a Welsh Springer puppy! Perhaps it has been a long search for the right breed or maybe it was love at first sight.

We'd like to explain a few things on this page about our policy, the way we raise our puppies and how to proceed if you'd like a puppy from us.

A lot of thought and effort is put into every combination we make, sometimes it can be quite a search to find the right partner for one of our girls. All of our dogs are hip scored, have had their eyes tested, thyroid checked and qualified at least as excellent at shows and we expect the same from any other dogs we may use in our breeding program. We breed according to the rules and regulations of the Dutch Welsh Springer Association.   You can find a list of all the litters we've bred so far here:  "des Vauriennes' litters". Expected litters or litters we have currently can be found here: "pups".

If you decide you'd like one of our puppies, this is how we proceed:

  1. You send us an e-mail with your name, address and short introduction of you and your family,  you can also give us a call and we'll send you our questionnaire by regular mail.

  2. After we've received your e-mail, we will send you and e-mail back with our questionnaire and further information.

  3. Once we've received your questionnaire we ask you to come over for a visit, depending on your distance to us.

  4. If we mutually feel comfortable about getting one of our puppies we'll put you on our list. We do prefer you pick up your puppy or let us fly it to you.

Choosing a puppy is a difficult task, one that we take upon us.  Even though the puppies undergo a temperament test at 7 weeks of age, this test does not determine which puppy goes where. Our observations of the litter for all those weeks, your questionnaire, preference and interests are the tools we use to match the puppies with their new owners.

Dog or bitch?

It seems that most people inquire about getting a female puppy with the common misconception that the females have better temperaments. We often get the question: What is the difference in temperament between a male and female Welsh Springer?   In this breed there is not really a large difference in the temperament between a male and female. As breeders we tend to keep more females than males, but of the males we have they are just as nice temperament wise as the females.  In fact most visitors to our home like our males better than the females. The males tend to be very outgoing and love to have fun!  If you are looking for a pet companion and not a breeding prospect you may want to consider a male too.

The Nursery

The puppies are raised in our home (at about 3 weeks of age they move from our bed room to the living room), they are dewormed, vaccinated, have a microchip, pet passport and pedigree. You also get a Puppy-Rom with lots of info about the breed, our kennel, your puppy and useful tips, food, a few toys and chews and other information you may need.

We try to socialize the puppies as best we can, they are exposed to many different people. We regularly take them on trips to different places. We also makes sure they all get the individual attention they need. Besides being exposed to all sorts of sounds around the house we also play a CD with sounds on it. Once they are old enough we start taking them on daily walks on a leash.
